TORREVIEJA, Spain, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- A married couple in Torrevieja, Spain, have been arrested for allegedly forcing a 13-year-old girl into prostitution, police said.

The couple, whose names were not released, now face six years each in jail and may have to pay the teenager $39,666 for psychological harm, ThinkSpain reported Sunday.

Police said the teen and other women, all over the age of 18, were obliged to work as prostitutes for the couple out of a flat in Torrevieja. The women gave the couple 50 percent of their earnings.

The defendants are due to appear in court in Elche on January 16.
