LONDON, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Heavy rains across Great Britain have wreaked havoc on commuters and caused flooding in much of England, Wales and Scotland, officials said.

Strong winds, rain, and possibly snow, have been predicted for much of Britain and are expected to continue through Monday.

There had been 82 warnings and 220 alerts issued in England and Wales by Saturday morning, with 13 alerts and 10 warnings in Scotland, the BBC reported.

Weather warnings caused the cancellation of several ferry services in Scotland Friday, The Scotsman reported.

High winds as strong as 75 mph affected services to the Orkney Islands throughout the day.

A flood relief fund was set up in Aberdeen, Scotland, to assist in the area's clean-up efforts, The Scotsman said.

"As well as looking at the short-term efforts to clear-up the town, it was agreed that a flood relief fund should be created to help those in greatest financial difficulty," said William Munro, the Aberdeen Council's area manager.
