Pakistan rejects Taliban peace offer

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- A Taliban group's offer of a conditional truce is unacceptable since militants cannot dictate to Pakistani officials, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said.

Malik said Thursday Taliban leader Iamatullah Muavia has "has tried to dictate [to] the government, which is totally unacceptable," through his conditioned peace offer, Pakistan Daily Times reported Friday.

Among other things, the offer called for an end to Pakistan's involvement in the war in neighboring Afghanistan.

The interior minister said the country's enemies want to topple the democratic system but their efforts won't succeed, the Times said.
