Cell service temporarily stopped in Karachi

KARACHI, Pakistan, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Cellphone service was suspended in Karachi, Pakistan, Friday, after police expressed concerns about a possible terrorist threat.

Officials said service was suspended for seven hours, Dawn News reported.

Militants in Pakistan detonate bombs using cellphones and the government has implemented similar temporary suspensions of service previously, officials said.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik once said 90 percent of the bombs set off by militants in Pakistan were detonated remotely by cellphone.
