Dec. 26, 2012 at 11:43 AM

TEHRAN, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Iranian marine forces began a four-day naval exercise aimed at "improving the different units of [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] Navy," officials said.

The exercise, called "Fajr 91," started Tuesday in the Asaluyeh and South Pars oil regions, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported.

During the exercise, different coastal units, including sea-to-coast units, rangers, floating units, and forks, will work on their operational tactics and combat capability to implement decisions and security programs.

Rear Adm. Ali Reza Nasseri described the exercises as aimed at "improving the different units of IRGC Navy in Fourth Region. We will assess our defense capabilities of human forces and facilities in different aspects."
