MONTREAL, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Thousands of people had no electricity Saturday in Canada after a storm that dumped up to 3 feet of snow on parts of Ontario and Quebec.
Parts of the Maritime Provinces were lashed by high winds, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. Some areas in Nova Scotia got 2 inches of rain.
In Ontario, about 18 inches of snow fell Friday. Snowfall was heavier in areas north of Quebec City.
Hydro Quebec said high winds made the power outages worse, damaging some equipment, The (Montreal) Gazette reported. About 130,000 homes and businesses were still without electricity Saturday morning, the CBC said, and Hydro Quebec said some might remain in the dark until late Monday.
