AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Steve Jobs' yacht was impounded in Amsterdam, Netherlands, by court order, as interior designer Philippe Starck awaits payment for his work on the craft.
The 80-meter aluminum-hulled yacht Venus was built in a Dutch shipyard for the late founder of Apple and launched two months ago. It currently is chained to a dock, the website DutchNews said.
The legal dispute centers on the bill for Starck's design work. His fee was established as 6 percent of the cost of building the boat, lawyer Roeland Klaassen told the Dutch newspaper Financieele Dagblad.
The yacht was originally estimated to cost 150 million euros ($198 million), and Starck received 9 million euros ($11.88 million). Jobs' heirs say the actual cost was 105 million euros ($138.6 million), which would have meant Starck deserved a fee of 6 million euros ($7.92 million). The heirs are attempting to recoup the of 3 million euro ($3.96 million) difference, the newspaper said, noting Jobs and Starck were friends who made the agreement with no formal contract.
Jobs died of cancer in October 2011.
