Costa Concordia investigation finished

GROSSETO, Italy, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Italian prosecutors said they have concluded their investigation into the sinking of the Costa Concordia cruise ship, charging 10 crew members in the disaster.

Defense attorneys for the accused, which includes the ship's former captain Francesco Schettino, have 20 days to respond to the manslaughter charges filed against them, ANSA news agency said Thursday. Thirty-two people died when the massive cruise ship ran aground off the coast of the Tuscan town of Grosseto in January.

Audio recordings taken as the ship sank allegedly revealed Schettino abandoned ship despite orders from dispatchers to remain on board and coordinate the evacuation.
