CAIRO, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Egyptian prison authorities are seeking permission from the Defense Ministry to transfer former President Hosni Mubarak to a military hospital.
Prison authorities cited Mubarak's deteriorating health as the reason for transferring the deposed leader from the Tora Prison hospital to the Maadi Military Hospital, Egypt Independent said.
Mohamed Ibrahim, assistant interior minister in charge of prisons, said Tuesday the ministry had yet to respond to the request.
Early this week, Mubarak slipped and fell in the bathroom, suffering head injuries and bruises to his torso, the Egyptian website said. Mubarak has had several fainting spells in recent weeks, the website said.
In August 2011, Mubarak was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in the killing of demonstrators during violent protests demanding Mubarak step down in January and February the same year, .
