VICTORIA, British Columbia, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Canadian police said a woman was charged after allegedly leaving a starving dog in her back yard.

The suspect, who Royal Canadian Mounted Police declined to identify, lives in Victoria, British Columbia, and the dog, named Badger, was given over to the SPCA late last week, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Tuesday. Veterinarians said the animal is expected to make a full recovery.
