No ransom yet in Italian kidnapping case

LA SPEZIA, Italy, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Police said no ransom has yet been demanded in the kidnapping of an Italian construction magnate.

Andrea Calevo, 31, of La Spezia, a coastal town west of Genoa, was kidnapped from his home by masked robbers Saturday. The assailants took cash from a safe along with Calevo, though his mother who was home at the time managed to escape and call police, ANSA news agency said.

Calevo's car was found Sunday pushed into a nearby river. ANSA said police are examining Calevo's personal finances and any business dealings of late that may have made him a target.

Calevo runs a successful third-generation firm that manufactures prefabricated construction materials.
