PYONGYANG, North Korea, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- To celebrate the first anniversary of the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il Monday, North Korea unveiled a renovated mausoleum for the ruling Kim family.

Kim's son and current North Korean leader Kim Jong Un attended the reopening ceremony Monday with his wife, Ri Sol Ju, and other top military, party and government figures, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

Kim Jong Il died of a heart attack on Dec. 17, 2011.

The North's Korean Central News Agency said in an English dispatch "an inaugural ceremony of the renovated Kumsusan Palace of the Sun is now under way in a solemn atmosphere on Monday."

The ceremony also included the sounding of a siren across the nation and three minutes of silence
