Colombia: Plane crash kills family of four

BOGOTA, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- A small plane crashed in northern Colombia shortly after taking off, killing a family of four, officials said.

The crash happened Wednesday near the Cucuta airport in the Catatumbo region, Colombia Reports said.

Security forces located the plane -- a Piper Seneca II -- as well as the bodies of its four occupants, officials said.

The bodies of victims, a couple and their two children ages 12 and seven, were removed from the crash site, which is a hotbed of rebel and drug trafficking activity, the report said.

No other information on was crash was available.
