ANKARA, Turkey, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- While poisons were found in the remains of Turkish President Turgut Ozal's body, the cause of his death 19 years ago remains unclear, Today's Zaman reported.

The Council of Forensic Medicine said the report would be sent to prosecutors in Ankara on Wednesday.

Ozal, founder of the Motherland Party, became Turkey's eighth president in 1989 after six years as prime minister. He died at the age of 65 in 1993 in an Ankara hospital.

While Ozal's death was blamed on a heart attack, his wife charged at the time that he had been poisoned. She said he might have been targeted to foil his plans for a union of Turkic countries.

His body was exhumed this year after a popular demonstration on the 14th anniversary of his death.
