Israelis raid NGO offices in West Bank

RAMALLAH, West Bank, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Israeli soldiers seized computers in raids of four organizations in Ramallah, the capital of the West Bank, an activist said Tuesday.

The targets were the Agricultural Work Committees, Addameer, an advocacy group for Palestinian prisoners, the Union of Palestinian Women's Committees and the Palestinian NGO Network, the Ma'an news agency reported. Witnesses said the soldiers used tear gas on teenagers who tried to get in their way.

"This a message by the Israelis to the Palestinians, saying that when they take decisions or form patriotic organizations to seek their freedom, the occupation will use aggression to try and stop us," said Allam Jarrar, a spokesman for the NGO Network.

Four laptop computers, a hard drive and a video camera were seized at Addameer and computers and files at the women's committees.
