Probe of German plane collision resumes

FRANKFURT, Germany, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- German authorities said search crews braved a snowstorm Sunday to resume their probe of a mid-air collision between two private planes that left eight dead.

The two planes crashed into a field in Wetterau, not far from Frankfurt, Saturday, and no survivors were located.

One of the victims was identified as an airline pilot for Lufthansa, although it was not known if he was at the controls of one of the doomed planes or was a passenger.

A family of three was aboard one of the planes, which was coming in for a landing at the Reichelsheim airport and struck another plane with five aboard, including three children, Hessian Radio said Sunday.

Officials said the planes were apparently in radio contact with the control tower but were under visual flight rules and visibility was good.
