NAPLES, Italy, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Italy's anti-Mafia activity includes the arrest of a fugitive crime boss and arrests in a probe of suspected infiltration of Italy's renewable energy industry.
Indonesian police Friday arrested Antonino Vitale Messicati, 40, described by Italian police as an up-and-coming Mafia boss, in a luxury villa on the Indonesian island of Bali. Messicati is wanted in Italy to serve a 10-year prison sentence for murder, extortion and drug trafficking, the Italian news agency ANSA reported Friday.
Italian police also arrested six people and seized $12.9 billion in assets in the Sicilian city of Tripani, in an investigation of suspected Mafia infiltration into western Sicily's renewable energy industry, the news agency said.
The country's interior minister said the government is considering the increase of its anti-Mafia military force in the Naples region, after a 50-year-old man with suspected ties to the Camorra Mafia group was shot to death Wednesday near a Naples pre-school.
"We are considering intensifying our military forces," Anna Maria Cancellieri told reporters outside the school in the Scampia neighborhood of Naples, a known drug-selling area.
