AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- The Netherlands' training mission in Afghanistan may end next year, earlier than originally planned, mission commander Roland de Jong said.

De Jong said it was likely the German military camp in Kunduz province will close in 2013, meaning there would be a "real chance the Dutch will have to leave as well," the Dutch newspaper, Volkskrant, reported Tuesday.

The Dutch mission is involved in training local police officers is in the same camp as German troops, who protect the Dutch mission and are responsible for managing the camp's facilities, DutchNews.nl reported.

Volkskrant reported German officials were considering withdrawing next year because of improved conditions in the province.

The Dutch training mission began in 2011 after the Dutch military mission ended. The training mission was to end in 2014.
