Woman's body found in flooded home

LONDON, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Flooding in Britain may have claimed another life, an elderly woman found dead in her bungalow in Wales Tuesday by police searching flooded homes.

Flooding and flood warnings were spread around the country from Wales to Yorkshire, The Daily Telegraph reported. Forecasters said large rivers including the Thames, Trent and Severn will continue to rise even though rain has eased off.

In Staffordshire, 20 sheep trapped by the rising Trent were saved by emergency workers, This Is Staffordshire reported.

The dead woman was found in St. Asaph, North Wales, where about 500 people were evacuated after the River Elwy overtopped its banks. Local community centers were converted to makeshift shelters.

"My husband phoned me at 7 a.m. to say parts of the city were being evacuated," Helen Ross told the newspaper. "I looked out of the window and there was water over the road and then, within an hour, it was in the house. We've lost everything downstairs. It's heartbreaking."

Authorities could not say for certain the woman in Wales was a flood victim because the cause of death had not been determined. Three people were killed during the weekend, a woman, 21, by a falling tree, a man, 50, who drowned after falling into a canal, and a man, 77, whose SUV was trapped under a bridge.
