GAZA, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Some parents in Gaza are naming their newborn babies Fajr, the name of an Iranian missile that was fired at Israel by Hamas, officials said.

Fajr (Arabic for Dawn) has been a popular choice, they said.

Amira Abu Assus named her baby Fajr, saying the name would give her child a "bright future with Palestinian resistance [and] he would carry the rockets whose name he bears so as to free Palestine from Israeli occupation," Ynetnews.com reported.

Muhammed al-Shafi'i Abu Nassat also named his son, born Friday, after the Iranian missile. He said it was his way of thanking Iran for supplying Gaza with rockets "that struck the enemy for eight days," the Israeli site said.

Other parents are naming their newborns after Ahmed Jabari, the Hamas military commander who was killed by an Israeli airstrike in Gaza during Operation Pillar of Defense.

Adham Murtaja said he named his son after Jabari to show Israel that the military commander's assassination does not prevent the Palestinians from producing heroes.
