Pig's head found near Islamic prayer site

MILAN, Italy, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- The severed head of a pig was found near a Milan, Italy arena where the local Islamic community holds weekly prayers.

It was found by security officials Friday near the PalaSharp Arena, a concert and sports venue seating 9,000 where Muslims hold Friday services, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Discovery of the pig's head could be regarded as a veiled threat, given the Muslim prohibition against eating pork, and local authorities quickly condemned the incident, Milan's vice-mayor calling it "intolerable. It is light-years away from this city of dialogue, of tolerance we are building."
