PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- A 73-year-old Canadian woman has been missing in Mexico since Monday, her family says.

Carroll Cotton, of British Columbia, now lives in Elmsdale, Nova Scotia. She flew from Halifax to Puerto Vallarta Monday to meet a friend, Blanca Crane, CBC News reported.

Upon her arrival, Cotton called a relative in British Columbia, and then headed to her hotel.

Her daughter, Ann Cotton, who lives in British Columbia, said her mother checked into the hotel but then signed out, and no one has heard from her since.

"My Mom calls Grandpa daily and he hasn't heard from her since that phone call. Blanca has been staying at a hotel nearby and has been going to the airport to keep looking for Mom and hasn't found her," she said.

Ann Cotton said Crane has posted fliers around Puerto Vallarta and has listed Carroll Cotton with Mexican authorities as a missing person.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Nova Scotia and the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ottawa have been notified of Carroll Cotton's disappearance.
