S. Korea, U.S. to discuss N. Korean nukes

SEOUL, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- South Korea's nuclear envoy, Lee Do-hoon, is set to travel to the United States for talks on North Korea's nuclear weapons program, an official said Friday.

Lee, South Korea's deputy chief envoy for the six-nation talks aimed at ending the North's nuclear weapons program, will meet with his American counterpart, Clifford Hart, beginning Monday, the Yonhap News Agency reported.

The envoys "plan to assess the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula and discuss future ways to deal with North Korea," a Foreign Ministry official said.

South Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan said efforts will likely be made to reopen the six-party talks after South Korea elects a new leader Dec. 19.
