IRKUTSK, Russia, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Russian police said they evacuated 42 people from three houses in Irkutsk after an artillery shell was found in a nearby garbage bin.

Police Wednesday covered the 120mm shell with "a special instrument, which blocks up the dispersion of shatters," if the bomb explodes, the Interior Main Directorate press service said Thursday.

"Now we are waiting for specialists from the military unit in Zima to arrive on the ground. The shell will be taken away and destroyed on the special range," the press service said.

A local resident found the shell and called police Wednesday, ITAR-Tass reported.
