John McAfee says he is not a killer

BELIZE CITY, Belize, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Computer security pioneer John McAfee, in an interview with ABC News, called himself a "very nice guy" pursued by the corrupt government of Belize.

He denied any involvement in the death of his neighbor, Gregory Faull.

"I am a very nice guy and certainly innocent of the charges leveled against me," McAfee said in the telephone interview Wednesday.

Faull, 52, was shot in the head, Raphael Martinez, a National Police spokesman, said. His body was found Sunday in his home on Ambergris Caye.

Martinez said three people have been detained for questioning, arrests he described as routine, CNN reported. He said police want to talk to McAfee but would not call him a suspect.

McAfee's bodyguard, William Mulligan, and his wife, Stephanie, face weapons charges, Martinez said.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow urged McAfee to come in, ABC said.

"He seems to be extremely paranoid. I would go so far as to say bonkers," Barrow said Wednesday

ABC obtained a copy of a complaint Faull, backed by other neighbors, filed with local officials last month. The complaint described McAfee taking no action after one of his dogs attacked a young woman visitor to Belize and said his security guards were also aggressive.

"They have been known to shine spotlights right into peoples' eyes at night and act aggressively with their guns, chambering a bullet and nonsense such as this," the complaint said. "People are scared to walk down the beach at night as a result. The tourists are terrified."

Four of McAfee's dogs were reportedly poisoned shortly before Faull's death.

McAfee, 67, resigned from the company that bears his name in 1997. He moved to Belize after losing much of his personal fortune in the global financial crash of 2008.

Faull's family said he was a building contractor in Florida and moved to Belize after buying a house damaged by hurricanes that he wanted to convert to a vacation rental.
