MONROVIA, Liberia, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Billboards throughout Monrovia, Liberia, claim a local politician will stage a coup to topple the government of the West African nation.

District 6 Rep. Edwin M. Snowe, with the help of Liberian soldiers and neighboring Burkina Faso, will overthrow the government, the signs say. There was no indication they were correct or anything more than attempt by someone to destabilize the political structure in the country, The (Monrovia) News reported Wednesday.

No reaction from Snowe was reported.

The billboards showed up after members of the Movement for the Defense of the Down Trodden, a civil society group, made similar claims to Liberia's Parliament. Those claims did not name anyone specifically, but said people inside Liberia were working with Burkinabe forces to destabilize the country.
