MAFEKING, Manitoba, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Manitobans awoke Monday to a blanket of up to 25 1/2 inches of snow, Canadian meteorologists said.

That was the amount measured in Mafeking in west-central Manitoba, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. Ashern and Swan River got about 16 inches and Winnipeg received just under 11 inches from the weekend winter storm with Portage la Prairie, Dauphin, Baldur, Holland, Gilbert Plains and Pilot Mound not far behind.

Mafeking Gas and Groceries operator Naomi Unger said the storm prompted language much more colorful than the white snow.

"All kinds of words you can imagine. But some love it," she told the CBC. "Some just love to get out there, in their 4-by-4s and spin around."

For Winnipeg, it was the biggest one-day snowfall since Dec. 30-31, 2006, when 12 1/2 inches fell. The city receives just under 8 1/2 inches in a typical November.
