MOSCOW, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- A Russian woman who agreed to sell her 5-year-old son to an undercover police officer has been sentenced to three years in prison, prosecutors said Friday.
A court in Khabarovsk Territory in the Far East found Yulia Savchenko, 28, guilty and imposed the sentence, RIA Novosti reported. She is to serve the sentence in a general security prison colony.
Savchenko was arrested in February. Investigators said she originally demanded more than $20,000 for the boy but eventually agreed to accept $9,500.
Police said she showed no curiosity about why a middle-aged man would be interested in buying a 5-year-old boy.
