Ukraine Parliament eyes slow vote count

KIEV, Ukraine, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- The Ukrainian Parliament Tuesday set up an ad hoc commission to investigate the slow ballot count from elections 10 days ago, officials said.

As of Monday, 99.95 percent of the ballots had been counted from the Oct. 28 voting, RIA Novosti reported.

Winners have still not been determined in nine single-seat legislative positions.

Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn said Parliament will ask the Central Electoral Commission and the Prosecutor General's Office to review the vote results in those districts.

A resolution approved by the Supreme Rada to set up the commission dropped a provision containing a list of persons allegedly implicated in ballot stuffing.

While Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych claims his party has 30 percent of the party list vote, enough to maintain control of Parliament, critics and leaders of oppositions parties claim there have been numerous reports of voting fraud around the country.

Opposition parties have hinted they may call for early presidential and parliamentary elections.
