Security chief fired in Egypt

AL-ARISH, Egypt, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- The head of security in Egypt's North Sinai was dismissed Sunday after three local policemen were fatally shot by unnamed assailants.

Gen. Ahmed Bakr was dismissed during a surprise visit from Interior Minister Ahmed Gamal Eddin to the border city of al-Arish Sunday, Ahram Online reported.

Bakr's dismissal was part of a list of demands from striking police officers, who have been protesting outside of the governorate's headquarters since Saturday after the three police officers were killed.

Bakr's deputy Sameh Bashadi was appointed in his place.
