U.S. soldier killed in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- An American soldier died in southern Afghanistan after an attack by a group of insurgents, military officials said.

"A U.S. Forces-Afghanistan service member died following an insurgent attack in southern Afghanistan today [Thursday]," the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said in a statement.

Information on the identity of the soldier and location of the attack not released. Khaama Press reported.

At least 240 U.S. troops have been killed in Afghanistan since the beginning of 2012, officials said.
