26 killed in vehicle collision in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- A passenger van and a truck collided head-on in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, killing at least 26 people and injuring several others, police said.

Geo News reported those killed in the Tuesday accident included seven women, a girl, and three children in the van, and three people in the truck. Bahawalpur is in Punjab province.

The report quoted rescue officials that the passenger van was travelling to Ahmedpur Sharqia from Bahawalpur and that the truck was coming from the opposite direction.

CNN, quoting a police official, said at least 12 people were injured and they were taken to a nearby hospital. The official said the collision occurred on a main road.
