JERUSALEM, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Palestinians in Gaza fired 20 rockets at southern Israel Monday, hours after an Israeli airstrike targeted Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip, the army said.

The airstrikes caused extensive damage, but no injuries were reported in either attack, the Palestinian news agency Ma'an reported.

Hamas claimed responsibility for the rocket fire, saying it was in response to "the continued Israeli aggression in Gaza," the report said.

Several rockets had been fired at southern Israel Sunday, the Israeli army said.

The army said the airstrikes targeted a terror site and rocket-launching squad in northern Gaza.

Rockets fell Monday in Sderot, the Ashkelon coastal area and the Eshkol area, most of them exploding in open places, the army said.

The latest round of rocket fire began despite an Egyptian-brokered truce in which Hamas agreed to halt rocket attacks against Israel, Israeli officials said,

A statement released by the Israeli army said since the beginning of October more than 150 rockets had been fired at southern Israel.
