MADAIN, Iraq, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Two bombs near Baghdad killed at least two people and wounded several others Sunday, one day after violence killed at least 31 people in Iraq, officials said.

The twin explosions took place in the town of Madain, Voice of America reported Sunday.

A series of explosions and shootings killed 31 people Saturday, including many Shiite pilgrims on the second day of the Eid al-Adha holiday.

A roadside bomb exploded about 12 miles north of the capital Baghdad, killing at least five Shiite pilgrims on a minibus traveling to a shrine. About a dozen other passengers were injured, CNN reported.

Five people were killed and seven wounded in four separate attacks in and around Mosul, about 235 miles north of Baghdad.

Two shootings and two bombings targeted houses and shops related to the Shabak sect, who were mostly affected by the incidents.

The government has blamed the attacks on Sunni insurgents with ties to al-Qaida.

Violence in Iraq is down from its peak in 2006 and 2007, though 365 deaths in September made it the country's deadliest month in two years, VOA reported.
