The snow began in Stockholm and other areas Thursday evening and was expected to continue through the weekend.

The Local.se reported at least 28 road accidents in Stockholm.

"Yes, we have had a few cars go off the road -- of course it is the weather," said Sven-Erik Ohlsson of the city police.

The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological institute warned of slippery roads throughout the country.

Rain fell in Skane, the country's most southern county, forecasters said.
