ISTANBUL, Turkey, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Activists in Istanbul attempted to hold a protest at a women's prison in support of an ongoing hunger strike by hundreds of prisoners, officials said.

Protesters were met at the prison by Istanbul police attempting to prevent the demonstration, Dogan News Agency reported Friday.

Some protesters staged a short sit-in before dispersing without incident. While the group was dispersing, three sound bombs detonated nearby.

Police are investigating the incident.
