Italy, Turkey shaken by quakes

ROME, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Earthquakes in Italy and Turkey Friday drove many people from their homes, officials said. There were no reports of injuries or damage.

In Italy, a magnitude 5 quake shook an area south of Naples, the ANSA reported.

Residents north of the Calabrian city of Cozenza were awakened by the temblor just after 1 a.m. local time. More than 100 aftershocks followed.

Widespread damage to buildings caused a hospital in Mormanno to close and a rest home in a nearby village was evacuated.

The mountain range between Calabria and Basilicata has produced more than 2,200 tremors in the past two years.

Two Turkish quakes with magnitudes of 4.0 and 4.1 shook Bursa province in the Marmara region and the Mediterranean city of Antalya, Hurriyet Daily News reported.
