Gaza bomb wounds Israeli army officer

BEERSHEBA, Israel, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- An Israeli army officer was seriously wounded in a roadside bomb attack on the Gaza border fence Tuesday morning, the Israeli army said.

The bomb detonated by Palestinians in central Gaza targeted a routine military patrol on the Israeli side of the border, the army said.

Israel's response to the bomb attack will be "very hard," The Jerusalem Post quoted Prime Minister Binyamin saying at the outset of a meeting in Jerusalem with Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev

"Terror organizations continue their relentless attempts to harm Israeli civilians and Israel Defense Force soldiers by using the area adjacent to the security fence for laying explosive devices and attempting to execute terror attacks," a statement released by the army said.

The Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the attack, the Palestinian Ma'an news agency said.
