KIEV, Ukraine, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Three people were killed Saturday when a light plane crashed in Ukraine's autonomous republic of Crimea, officials said.

Ukraine's Ministry of Emergency Situations said the crash occurred near the village of Chernozemnoe and scattered debris for nearly 500 feet.

The plane had departed the Dnipropetrovsk Region and was destined for Yevpatoria, the ministry said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by local officials.
