Teen killed during attempt to stop suicide

JERUSALEM, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Israeli police killed a teenager early Friday while attempting to stop him and his girlfriend from committing suicide, officials said.

The teenager, Raz Atias, 18, submitted a message to a news website Thursday evening saying he and his girlfriend, 17, whose name was not reported, decided to end their lives over personal matters, Ynetnews reported.

"You may find us according to our Facebook check-in later tonight. Good luck finding us. I would appreciate it if you notified our families. Please don't try to stop us," the message read.

Atias and his girlfriend then drove to a wooded area, where Atias fired a gun as a test shot, then crashed his car into a security rail.

When police arrived at the scene, Atias allegedly shot at them, prompting officers to fire back. He was killed immediately, the news report said.

The girl was unharmed in the incident and was taken to a local hospital for further examination.
