Man answers racism charge in France

PARIS, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- A man in a suburb of Paris denied charges in a French court of making anti-white racist remarks to a neighbor.

The unnamed man, described by the French news agency The Local as 46 years old and of Indian origin, went before the court Thursday to answer charges he had been vocally abusing his neighbor, a white woman, since 2004.

"This guy had been bothering his neighbor for several years to the point where the neighbors start a petition," a witness told the newspaper Le Parisien.

The victim went to police in July after the man allegedly shouted "Dirty white woman" and "I'm going to smash your face in and break your door down" at her while appearing to be drunk, the news agency said.

The man denied the charges, but admitted to the court he was drunk on the night in question.
