CAIRO, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- The Egyptian tourist industry remains strong despite ongoing political uncertainty, a government statistical office announced.

The government statistics agency CAMPAS reported Wednesday more than a million tourists visited the country in August, up from 907,000 in August of the previous year.

Most inbound tourism was from Western Europe, followed by Eastern Europe and elsewhere in the Middle East, it said.

President Mohamed Morsi visited the city of Luxor in August and promised to ensure domestic security to prevent a decline in tourism, Ahram Online reported.
