Earthquake shakes Alexandria, Egypt

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck Alexandria, Egypt, early Friday morning, the Egyptian geophysical agency reported.

Hatem Oada, head of the National institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research, said in a statement the tremor occurred at 5:35 a.m. local time, its epicenter in the Mediterranean Sea, north of the Nile Delta. He added the region is not typically seismically active.

No damages or injuries have been reported, the Cairo newspaper al-Masry al-Youm said.
