The incident at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel began at 2:15 a.m. Monday and ended at 12:15 p.m. when police used a "flash bang" device to distract the unidentified Surrey man and shot him in the leg with a plastic projectile before taking him into custody, The Vancouver Sun reported.
The suspect was treated for minor injuries and now faces weapons-related charges, police Constable Brian Montague said.
It wasn't clear why the man walked into the hotel lobby and brandished a handgun before heading to the third floor where meeting rooms are located.
