BANGKOK, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- The Thailand Supreme Court Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions has issued an arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
The warrant, issued Wednesday, charged Thaksin and 26 others with malfeasance, including former Krung Thai Bank President Viroj Nualkair in relation to about $377 million in loans, the Bangkok Post reported.
The loans were given to the affiliates of Krisdamahanakorn Plc, a major property and real estate firm, despite Krisdamahanakorn being classified as a non-performing debtor of the bank, the charges state.
All of the defendants, except Thaksin, have appeared before the court and denied the charges.
Thaksin legal adviser Noppadon Pattama Tuesday said Thaksin had no involvement in KTB's approval of loans to Krisdamahanakorn Plc.
