Anonymous: WikiLeaks too focused on Assange woes

LONDON, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- The hacking collective Anonymous, a long-time ally of WikiLeaks, says the whistle-blower site has become too focused on the personal troubles of its founder.

Anonymous said in a message on its Twitter account WikiLeaks had become "the one man Julian Assange show," The Guardian reported Friday.

The statement was posted after WikiLeaks Thursday began asking visitors for donations before giving access to millions of government documents stored on the site.

Anonymous charged WikiLeaks had "moved away from actual leaks and the fight for freedom of information further and further while it concentrated more and more on Julian Assange."

WikiLeaks says it is funded entirely by donations from the public. The demand for donations was necessary because of the "high costs in military courts," the site said on Twitter.

The disagreement could have a dramatic effect on WikiLeaks, as some of the site's recent postings are believed to have come from Anonymous.
