Earthquake jolts Banda Sea off Indonesia

JAKARTA, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- A magnitude-6.3 earthquake shook the Banda Sea off Indonesia Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake occurred 21 miles beneath the surface, the USGS said.

It was located 288 miles north-northwest of Saumlaki in the Tanimbar Islands, 289 miles south-southwest of Sorong, Indonesia and 377 miles northeast of Dili, East Timor.

There were no immediate warnings or reports of tsunamis generated by the quake.
