KHARTOUM, Sudan, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A Russian-built Sudanese military aircraft crashed Sunday after leaving Khartoum, killing 13 of the 22 people aboard, an army spokesman said.

The Antonov An-12 transport plane was carrying 16 military personnel and six crew members when it hit the ground 30 miles west of Omdurman, the Sudan Tribune reported.

All of the survivors were injured, the report said.

The pilot had radioed about an undisclosed technical emergency before the aircraft crashed and erupted into flames, CNN reported.

The plane was carrying military equipment and was bound for the regional capital of El Fasher in North Darfur, the Tribune said.
