VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Investigators say a right foot and lower leg found in an inlet in Vancouver, British, Columbia, appear to be from the same body as a left foot found last year.
The grisly discovery was made Friday in False Creek by two fishermen, The (Vancouver) Province reported. The foot was still in a running shoe.
Police Sgt. Randy Fincham said there was no evidence of foul play, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
Stephen Fonseca of the British Columbia Coroners Service said the right-foot shoe is the same make and size as one that was on a left foot found in the water in Vancouver in August 2011.
At least 11 shoes containing bones have been found in British Columbia on beaches or in waterways since 2007, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. In two cases, the bones were found to be from animals, suggesting hoaxes.
The others may have been suicides. Experts say that feet encased in shoes decompose more slowly in the water than the rest of the body and become detached.
