ROME, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Authorities in Italy are preparing for a nationwide public transport strike union officials said will be conducted in mid-November.

The strike, set to begin Nov. 16, is over workers' contracts that expired Dec. 31, 2007, and have yet to be renewed, Itay's ANSA news agency reported Friday.

The strike will be coupled with a massive demonstration to be held in Rome, said an announcement made by the Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Ugltrasporti and Faisa Cisal trade unions.
